Fieldtrip Grade X: Rainbow trout farming

Rainbow trout farming is leading the market in Sikkim and in India. Sikkim secured 3rd position in 'trout production' contributing 14% to the total production in 2015-16. To explore the same, students of Grade X visited the private farm of Mr Dal Bahadur Gurung. The farm was located in a small village called 'Sribadam' in West Sikkim. Mr Gurung addressed the students on the various processes involved in trout farming including the hatching process of rainbow trouts. The interactive session was interesting and left an impression on the students. The visit truly was "educational" for everyone and also promoted the policy 'Vocal for Local' which benefits the local economy.

Fieldtrip Grade XII: Science City, Kalimpong

The students of Grade XII went for an education field trip to Kalimpong on 17 th May 2023. They visited the Science Center. The students explored the digital gallery, activity corners, and had fun with the magic mirrors. The visit to the Science Center provided them an opportunity to connect theoretical knowledge with its practical implications. The students also enjoyed 3D movies on Dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures in the theatre. After completing the visit to the Science Center, the students went to the famous ‘Deolo Hill’, the highest point in the town which provides a panoramic view of Kalimpong town. The trip was enriching, insightful and indeed a memorable one for the students.

The Fire and Emergency Service: Workshop

On the 14th of May, 2023, 'The Fire and Emergency Service' team from Rabongla, Namchi District led by OC Mr. Gensapa conducted an awareness program on fire safety on campus. They informed the School about different types of fires and methods to extinguish them. They further demonstrated how easily one can control LPG fire with just a wet jute sack or cloth. The team also demonstrated how to make an improvised stretcher during an emergency. There was enthusiastic participation from the Students and the Staff. The program was very informative and helpful.

The new members of the elected student council were announced and given responsibility for the school and its houses. Animesh Thapa was elected as the President of the school, with the Vice President as Ayushiriya. The Centaur house captain and vice captain are Ayush Losang(Captain) and Subeksha Subba (Vice Captain)respectively. The Hippogriff house captain are Deependra Chettri(Captain) and Deepshika Mangar(Vice Captain).The Basilisk house captain are Sangnuma Rai (Captain) and Gunjal Rai(Vice Captain). The Phoenix house captain are Sneha Pradhan(Captain) and Chewang Tamang(Vice Captain). The oath taking took place on the same day when the captains were chosen .The captains now carry the responsibilities in their hands to lead the school together and bring about a brighter future full of prosperity.

Excursion: Grade VI - Adventure course at the Indian Himalayan Centre for Adventure and Eco-Tourism, Chemchey, South Sikkim

The students of Grade VI were taken for a 3 day excursion cum adventure course at the Indian Himalayan Centre for Adventure and Eco-Tourism, Chemchey, South Sikkim. They were accompanied by 4 teachers. The students participated in adventure activities such rock climbing, zip lining and rappelling with great zeal and enthusiasm. They had great fun while learning crucial life skills such as leadership and overcoming fears. Sawanam Chha Rai, Memang Rai, Chirag Rai, Sangya Sherpa and Bettyla Bhutia stood out with their performance and positive attitude.

Inter-House Volleyball Competition

The Inter-House Volleyball Competition 2023 took place from 20th April – 2nd May. After a well fought group campaign, Houses Hippogriff (Green) and Phoenix (Red) qualified for the Girls finals and Houses Phoenix (Red) and Centaur (Blue) qualified for the Boys Finals. Both the matches in the finals were also equally competitive. Eventually Hippogriff (Green) emerged victorious in the Girls category while Phoenix (Red) emerged victorious in the Boys category.

Excursion: Grade VII

20th - 22nd April 2023 marked a three day excursion for Grade VII students to West Sikkim. Students were taken to monasteries and historical sites thus exposing them to the wonderful heritage and cultures of Sikkim. It was a hands-on experience. The excursion began with a visit to the famous and sacred Tashiding Monastery and then to the oldest monastery in the state at Dubdi. The students also visited the birthplace of the state (Norbugang). Many other historical sites were covered. Three days were not enough to explore the entire district but nonetheless, it was a fruitful visit and an enriching life experience for everyone in the seventh grade.

GRADE IX: FIELD TRIP TO WEST SIKKIM

On 14th April 2023 the students of Grade IX were taken for a field trip to the famous Rabdentse ruins and Pemayangtse monastery in West Sikkim. Rabdentse (AD 1670 – 1814) was the second capital of the former kingdom of Sikkim. It was established by Chogyal Tensung Namgyal, the second King from 1670 to 1814 AD. A short walk led to the palace hidden from the crowd. The palace and the monastery complex were destroyed after the Nepalese invasion in the 18 th century. The ruins have been declared a site of national importance by the Archeological Survey of India. Today it is a famous monument that attracts tourists from all over who are eager to learn more about Sikkim.

The D.E.A.R Day

The D.E.A.R Day, also known as Drop Everything and Read Day, was observed at MPS on 12th April during the morning assembly wherein the entire school read together for 15 minutes. As the name suggests, D.E.A.R Day is a celebration of reading and is designed to remind everyone to make reading a priority activity in their daily lives. It is celebrated every year on 12th April to commemorate the birthday of the eminent author Beverly Cleary as she was the first to create the concept of D.E.A.R in her book Ramona Quimby, at age 8. On this day, everyone is encouraged to take at least 15 -30 minutes to put aside all distractions, daily tasks, literally drop everything, and enjoy reading books

Adventure Camp at Indian Himalayan Centre for Adventure and Eco- Tourism (IHCAE), Chemchey, South Sikkim: Grade X & XII

Students of Grade X and XII along with teachers Miss Rachana, Mr Siddharth and Mr Rinchen headed for a Seven day Adventure Camp at Indian Himalayan Centre for Adventure and Eco-Tourism (IHCAE), Chemchey, South Sikkim. The camp was truly rejuvenating and a great exposure for students. The group was warmly welcome by the hospitable staff of IHCAE, who provided a positive and safe environment for students to gain confidence and build self-esteem. Students took part in various challenges and exciting activities like Rock Climbing, Rappeling, Ziplining, Sport climbing and many other team building exercises. All the exercises were well planed and supervised by professional and experienced instructors. The aim of the team building exercises was to encourage groups to work together and communicate better. Students were well informed and trained in the use of the equipment before taking part in those exercises. The thrill and excitement could be easily spotted on the faces of the students while indulging in those exercises.. The students were also taken for a hike to Maenam Base Camp, located at Bhaleydhunga. On the final day, the students trekked to Frengrung Taar, a beautiful village untouched by the perils of urbanization. Students pitched their own tents and also prepared dinner. Bonfire, music and dance added to the students’ happiness. Thanks to the camp the students learned various skills like leadership, decision making and managing their fear. The students were awarded with the course completion certificate.

The Annual Book Fair

The Annual Book Fair was held at MPS on 4th April - 6th April. The two day affair was an event eagerly anticipated by our campus bibliophiles. The event was hosted by Woodpeacker Publisher, a Kolkata based publishing house. The first day of the book fair was for the Junior School, Grades 5 - 8 and the second day was for the Senior School, Grade 9 - 12. The book fair showcased a variety of books catering to different age groups and tastes. The genres expanded from Mangas, Young adult fiction, Biography, Classics and many more.

Excursion: Grade V

Students of Grade V were taken for a two day and one night excursion to Gangtok. The itinerary included visit to the Himalayan Zoological Park, Tsuklakhang Palace - Chogyal’s Palace, Handicraft and Handloom Centre and Science Centre. The students spent the night at Camp Mantis. This itinerary was specifically chosen to cater to the experiential learning of the students. The students witnessed wildlife upclose at the Zoological Park and learnt about them. They also experienced local history by visiting the Chogyal’s Palace. They also learnt some outdoor life-skills by staying at Camp Mantis where they had to pitch their own tents. On the second day the students saw and learnt about the various processes involved in producing local art and craft. The excursion concluded with a visit to the Science Centre. It definitely opened and ignited scientific curiosity in the students mind.

Grade VIII: Educational Field Trip

On 20th of March, 2023 the students of VIII Grade went for a field trip to Sikkim Supreme Factory. They also did a quick survey of the Singtam Laal Bazaar. The trip was a fruitful one as the students were informed about various mechanisms and procedures in the Sikkim Supreme factory by the Supervisor, Mr.Aditya Dhakal. They further gathered information on the different products being produced and their manufacturing process. The Singtam Laal Bazaar survey was fun and informative for the students as they learned a great deal about the various vegetables being sold; such as their market rates, farming techniques, and their export potential.

Grade VII: Educational Field Trip

On 18th March 2023, Grade VII went on a field trip to the Gangtok and visited the Handicraft and Heirloom Department & Namgyal Institute of Tibetology. The purpose of the trip was to ensure that the students become familiar with the local culture and traditions of Sikkim. The students not only explored the traditional arts and crafts of the state but also an insight into how the production of traditional handicrafts helps the state economy, by increasing employment. The students also had an opportunity to study and view the history of Sikkim. It was an enriching visit for the students and a hands-on learning about the working of the handicraft industry in the state.

Grade XII: Educational Field Trip

On the 9th of March, 2023, the students of the 12TH Grade were taken to visit the Rabdentse ruins located at Pelling, West Sikkim. The main purpose of the trip was to explore and connect with the local history, culture and tradition of Sikkim. The trip gave the students an opportunity to take a walk through one of the most difficult periods in Sikkim’s history. The students were keen to learn about their own history for a change since all they read is history of faraway places.

On 8 th March 2023, there a Rongoli Competition held at Manjusri Public School. The day was also observed as Holi and International Women’s Day. Keeping this in mind the theme of the competition was ‘Gender Equality’. The event was judged by Mr Rongsen Jamir, Mr Karma Shemga, Ms Deepa Moktan and Mr Arpan Ghosh. Judges were evaluating on the basis of 4 criteria’s: Composition, Creativity, Technique and Originality. The winner of the year’s first Inter-House event was Phoenix. Hippogriff came in 2 nd , followed by Basilisk and Centaur.

Inter House Cricket Tournaments

The school kicked off the cricket season as they taught all the students the rules to the cricket, a sport which many don’t know. The opportunity to learn such an extraordinary sport had grasped all our interest as Miss Srijana and Mr.Siddharth helped us learn the rules and regulations to this game. After all the lessons some who were confident with this sport went ahead and represented their house in a series of inter-house matches .When the first match started, the crowd went ablaze with excitement cheering for their own respective houses. The match kept us on the edge of our seats while we pondered about who would win. The final match was full of nervous as we all waited patiently for the final winner after a mind blowing match. Hippogriff took the trophy for the girls side and Phoenix took the trophy for the boys with Karma Chewang from class 12 as the man of the match (Boys) and Namzel Shenga from class 10 for the man of the match (Girls).This overall was a great learning experience that we would all takeaway.

Manjusri Public School has always endeavored to keep the well-being of the students at the centre of all its programs. The yearly week long ‘Orientation’ consists of various workshops which build upon and sharpen the skills of our teachers. At MPS, we truly believe that learning is a lifelong endeavor.

18th National Jamboree, Pali, Rajasthan

'Bharat Scouts and Guides' of Manjusri Public School, Temi participated in the 18th National Jamboree, held at Pali, Rajasthan from 4th-10th January, 2023. 29 scouts and guides from Manjusri Public School along with 150 scouts and guides from various schools across Sikkim represented the State. The Jamboree is considered one of the biggest platforms for the scouts and guides across India, wherein approximately a gathering of 37,000 scouts and guides from various States and Union Territories as well as from foreign countries was witnessed. In the Jamboree, different events were organised such as State gate, State exhibition, Skill-O-Rama, March-past, Food plaza, Global Village Development, Cultural pageant show, Cultural Fashion Show, Folk dance, Camp fire. Along with it, adventure & intellectual activities as well as fun-based games activity were also organised.

EXCURSION TO WEST BANGAL AND ORISSA: GRADE IX AND XI

Students of Grade 9 and 11 along with 4 teachers went on an exposure trip to East India (Kolkata, Sundarban and Puri) The itinerary was planned in advance and with great care to ensure the students not only soaked in the different cultures and places but also had plenty of time to create memories. At Sundarban, the students visited the Tiger Reserve, Sundarban Wild Animal Park, Godkhali and witnessed the unique tribal culture firsthand. At Kolkata, the students visited Science City, Nicco Park, Birla Planetarium, St. Paul’s Cathedral, National Library, Alipur Zoo, and the Indian Museum. At Puri, the students visited the beach, Jagannath Temple, Konark (Sun Temple) and the beautiful Chilika Lake with a view of the Bay of Bengal. With the trip, the students were exposed to a variety of culture, language and lifestyles. Content from their textbooks came alive as they visited the places and monuments which they had only read about so far. It was a very enjoyable and successful trip.

Winner of 1st State Level Volleyball Championship

The Volleyball teams of Manjusri Public School participated in the 1st State Level Volleyball Championship organised by the Volleyball Association of Sikkim at Namchi, South Sikkim. It was a weeklong tournament from 31 October to 6 November, 2022. The boy’s team lost in the quarterfinals. On the other hand, the girl’s team were able to make the school proud by winning all their games in straight sets on their way to the finals. In the finals Manjusri Public School defeated Paljor Namgyal Girls School. It was a dominating display by the Manjusri girls as they were crowned the STATE CHAMPIONS 2022 without dropping a set. Ahalyaa Winona Rai of Grade 10 was awarded the 'Man of the Match' for her brilliance in the finals. Shrutee Shree Rai of Grade 12 won the prestigious 'Most Promising Player' award for her dominating display throughout the championship.

School Fete, 2022

The annual Manjusri Public School Fete took place on 29 September 2022. The event was blessed by the weather gods as it was a beautiful sunny day. There were myriad stalls selling food, handicrafts made by the students etc. The Fete also hosted a stall selling goods made by the local women’s self-help group. The games stalls were crowded and the energy was infectious. The students and parents had a gala time and it was a perfect start to the Puja holidays.

Celebrated the birthday of his Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama

On the 6th of July, 2022 Manjusri Public School celebrated the birthday of his Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama. The auspicious occasion was celebrated with great pomp and fervor. Students danced and sang songs dedicated to his holiness. The celebration concluded with a thoughtful and much needed speech by our Principal, Mr Rajat Bose, on the importance of religious tolerance and brotherhood in today's world.

Adventure Course at Himalayan Mountaineering Institute

On the 9th of June 2022 the students of Grade 10 and 12 went for an excursion to the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI) located in Darjeeling. The trip lasted 10 days. The students were enrolled for the 'Adventure Course' which comprised exciting activities such as rock climbing, rappelling, jumaring, knot-making etc. They were also taken for an adventurous hike to the world famous Tiger Hill, Darjeeling. The excursion provided a golden opportunity for the students to learn important life skills as well as take one step in the field of basic mountaineering and learn things that can never be learnt within the four walls of a classroom. At the end, the students were awarded 'Certificates of Merit' for the successful completion of the course.

Plantation Drive

The members of ‘Legacy XX11’ conducted a plantation drive on the 6th June 2022 at the school campus in order to celebrate World Environment Day. A total of 44 saplings were planted by the team of students and teachers. The saplings consisted of various species of plants such as Cherry, Lopsi, and Gauva etc.

The Inter-House Quiz Competition, Junior and Senior Category, was held on the 2nd and 4th June 2022 respectively. In the junior category, Hippogriff took first after a nail biting tie-breaker while Basilisk comfortable swept away the coveted prize in the Senior Category. Both the winners earned 12 points apiece for their respective houses.

Athletics Meet at Gangtok

Manjusri Public School was represented by a contingent of 16 students in the 14th Open Boys/Girls Athletics Meet held at Khelgaon, Resithang. The event lasted 3 days, 27th -29th May 2022. The students did Manjusri proud by bagging a sum total of 13 medals with 3 Gold. Chewang Dorjee Lepcha of Grade 12 Humanities was awarded the trophy for ‘Best Athlete U-18’. The medalists: Chewang Dorjee Lepcha – 3 gold Arnish P. Daahal – 1 silver, 1 bronze Rikzin D. A trip to Chemchey: Mountaineering Institute

A trip full of fun but adventurous is the kind of trip that school has organized for grade VI (both sections). The school management has organized 3-day (14th May to 16th May, 2022) excursion to Chemchey, South Sikkim for adventurous course at IHCAE. IHCAE stands for Indian Himalayan Centre for Adventure and Eco-Tourism, situated at the top of a hill in Chemchey village, about 6.7 km from our Country Campus, Temi-Tarku. It is one of the premier mountaineering institutes in India. In a three day excursion, activities such as introduction of mountaineering gadgets and equipments, artificial rock climbing, natural rock climbing, knotting and zip lining has been arranged in which our students has participated with full zeal and zest.

Robotics workshop at SMIT, Majitar

On the 12th of May 2022, Grade IX and XII (Computer Science) students attended a day long workshop on Robotics at SMIT, Majitar. Students were given an opportunity to build and program robots. It was such a wonderful experience for the students. Such hands on experience helps the student to build and improve their programming skills. Robotics is a great way to teach your children many subjects like math and science as well as stimulate the development of creativity and reasoning skills.

A trip to North Sikkim: Grade VII

The students of Grade 7 went on an excursion trip to the beautiful northern district of Sikkim. The itinerary included a visit to Yumthang and the pristine Gurudongmar Lake. The students enjoyed the cold and had great fun making snowmen. The trip allowed our young students to create memories and to experience the wonders of their home state. It is our endeavor to ensure that our young students get accustomed to their diverse local flora and fauna culture, geography, and history .

Inter-house Cricket Tournament

Manjusri public school organized an inter house cricket match from 21st of April till 24th of April 2022. From the girls, basilisk and hippogriff qualified for the finals and from the boys it was centaur and basilisk. After a very tough fight basilisk girls and centaur boys emerged victorious. This tournament brought a lot of enthusiasm and has increased the popularity of the sports on campus.

Educational Trip to Kalimpong, West Bengal

On the 9th of April 2022, Grade 10 students went for a fieldtrip to Kalimpong, West Bengal. Students visited the iconic handmade paper factory ‘Gangjong Paper Factory’ in ‘Khasmahal’. They met local entrepreneur and proprietor, name, and understood the whole process of making paper from the bark of the tree locally known as ‘Argeli’ (Daffoney) without harming the environment. They also visited the innovation hub and science exhibition center at City Center, Delo to understand the growth of science and technology and their application in industry, human welfare and environment.

Hilley Barsey Trip 2022 Grade: V

The Hilley Barsey Rhododendron Sanctuary or Barsey Rhododendron Sanctuary occupies 104 km² in the Singalila Range in western Sikkim. It is the second largest sanctuary of Sikkim. Graced with different species of Rhododendron and wildlife one can experience Nature at its finest. This year our Grade V students, both the campuses - City and Country, had an opportunity to witness this spectacle. We began our preparation a month before and were super charged for this trip. Finally, when the day arrived we left no stones unturned. We were dazzled by this sanctuary. Different species of flora and fauna coexisting in that delicate balance made us realize how connected and interdependent we all are to each other. This place is marvelous and everyone had an amazing adventure.

Educational Trip to Namchi, West Bengal

On 9th April, the students of grade 9 went on a field trip to Namchi. The first destination was the Salleybong Cave temple followed by a visit to Chardham. The magnificent design of the temples left an everlasting imprint on the minds of the students. The final destination was The Biodiversity Park. The dense park consisting of several ponds and a high bridge looked serene and soothing after a long day of travel. The trip was short but the students will surely cherish these enriching memories.

Inter House Elocution Competition

Elocution is a speech competition where students are allotted a specific topic on which they express their thoughts within the given time. It helps students develop self expression and confidence. Career Counseling Session

On the 16th of March, Manjusri Public School organised a Career Counselling session for its outgoing batch of Grade 12. For this event, MPS invited the faculty members of the prestigious Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT) Majitar to its campus at Temi. Mr Bishal Pradhan and Dr Gopal Thapa shared valuable information regarding the courses as well as life at SMIT. It motivated our students . The session was highly interactive and definitely enjoyed by our students. We will be planning a campus visit soon for our current batch.

On 12th of March, Saturday, Manjusri Public School hosted the Namchi Senior Secondary School in a friendly Basketball match. It was a competitive and closely fought affair. The final score was 38-36, in favor of Manjusri Public School. The introduction of Karma Chewang Bhutia by the coach, Mr Phuntsog Pulger, changed the game in the direction of the home team. The home crowd was vociferous and cheered the team to victory. After the game, our Principal, Mr Rajat Bose offered Khadas and presented a memento as a token of appreciation to the manager of the visiting team. The MPS basketball team comprised of Karma Zangpo Bhutia, Vyas Gurung, Karma Zangpo Bhutia, Karma Chingapa (C), Aradhya Khanal, Karma Chewang Bhutia, Aadarsh Gurung, Gunjal Rai and Sonam Wangchuk Lachungpa. It was coached by Mr Phuntsog Pulger.

Celebration of International Women's Day

The celebration of INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY 2022 at Manjusri Public School, was a grand and joyous affair. The female staff of MPS, both teaching and non-teaching staff were facilitated with Khadas and mementos by the school chairman Loday Sir. Mr Rajat Bose, the school Principal gave a speech on why women need to be celebrated, not just on this day but every day. We hope this important message travels far and wide.

Inter-House Volleyball Tournament

Volleyball is one among such games which balances roughness with control. The whole game is based on intuition & thoughts but most of all on teamwork. There is no way to freelance in volleyball as it can never go right without interaction. It is a game of coordination & confidence. Inorder to incorporate the same and help our students gain the benefits of playing any sports, an inter-house volleyball tournament (boys/girls) has been organized by the school at its Country campus. The tournament is currently underway. The Finals, both boys and girls, is scheduled to be held on 25th of March 2022.
