Young Environmental Leaders Present Community Sustainability Initiatives at Gram Sabha

On the occasion of World Environment Day, students from our school participated in the Gram Sabha meeting at Tarku Tanak Gram Panchayat Unit (GPU), demonstrating how young minds can contribute to community development and environmental stewardship. Representing the school were Memang Rai and Aayush Kharel of Grade IX, along with Auswini Sharma and Praglab Rai of Grade X. The students presented two innovative projects aimed at addressing local environmental and social challenges. The first proposal, the School-Led Stray Dog Vaccination and Sterilization Initiative, is planned in collaboration with Sikkim Anti Rabies and Animal Health (SARAH). The project seeks to promote animal welfare through vaccination and sterilization efforts while engaging students in awareness campaigns, documentation, and experiential learning. The second proposal, the Sustainable Water Management and Spring Recharge Project, is being planned in partnership with the Govind Ballabh Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment (GBPNIHE). The initiative focuses on studying local water resources, understanding the causes of declining water availability, exploring recharge techniques, and promoting water conservation practices within the school and surrounding community. The Panchayat President and ward members appreciated the students’ commitment towards environmental conservation and community welfare. They assured full support for both initiatives and expressed their willingness to assist in future implementation through community mobilization, coordination with relevant departments, and logistical support. The participation of our students in the Gram Sabha highlights the importance of youth engagement in local governance and reflects the school’s commitment to nurturing responsible, environmentally conscious citizens.
